Castles and Abbeys

Our region is dotted with vestiges. Our past is intimately linked to that of the Cathars who left us numerous castles in the hinterland, notably at Peyrepertuse and Queribus. Also, fortifications and abbeys have remained in the landscape and have kept traces of the past. Visit the city of Carcassonne, the town of Colioure, the Abbey of Frontfroide and the Abbey of La Grasse with its pretty listed village. The fortress of Salses is the closest to La Palme and should be visited with a guide, as its history is fascinating.
